DOJ Investigating Cuomo for Allegedly Lying About COVID Nursing Home Deaths
Rep. Comer said “that there was ‘overwhelming evidence’ that Cuomo, 67, presided over a July 6, 2020, audit that undercounted the total number of deaths in New York senior care facilities during the pandemic by 46%.”
The Department of Justice opened an investigation into former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for allegedly lying to Congress about nursing home deaths during COVID.
Cuomo is currently the leader in the New York City mayoral race.
The New York Times first reported the investigation, but Devlin Barrett turned it into a hit piece against President Donald Trump, even though House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) requested an investigation in 2024.
The investigation started a month ago when Ed Martin led the District of Columbia U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Jeanine Pirro is now the acting U.S. attorney for the office.
The comments stem from Cuomo’s testimony in front of the House COVID Committee on June 11, 2024.
Comer claimed “that there was ‘overwhelming evidence’ that Cuomo, 67, presided over a July 6, 2020, audit that undercounted the total number of deaths in New York senior care facilities during the pandemic by 46%.”
Cuomo told the subcommittee “that he had not drafted, reviewed, discussed or consulted people for ‘peer-review’ on the nursing home report, which was published by the New York state Department of Health.”
Former Attorney General Merrick Garland denied Comer’s request.

The former governor’s spokesperson Rich Azzopardi told The Post that he was unaware of any investigation — slamming the prospect of one as “lawfare and election interference.”
“We have never been informed of any such matter, so why would someone leak it now?” he said in a statement. “The answer is obvious: This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple — something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against.
“Governor Cuomo testified truthfully to the best of his recollection about events from four years earlier, and he offered to address any follow-up questions from the Subcommittee — but from the beginning this was all transparently political,” he added.
Despite people like The NYT’s Barrett implying the investigation is just Trump going after his foes, there is no denying Cuomo messed up during COVID with the nursing homes.
Voices for Seniors applauded the DOJ.
“For over five years, our movement has been fueled by heartbreak and a single-minded demand for the truth,” the group said in a statement. “Over 15,000 seniors died in New York nursing homes – mothers, fathers, grandparents – while those in power played politics and manipulated the narrative. Cuomo’s alleged involvement in editing the July 2020 DOH report to conceal the real death toll is not just a betrayal of public trust – it’s a betrayal of the very lives he was sworn to protect.”
The group added: “This investigation is not just justified; it’s overdue. The evidence paints a damning picture of a leader more concerned with image than integrity. Grieving families have waited long enough.”

Voices for Seniors co-founder Vivian Zayas told The New York Post that many nursing home families sent three letters to Attorney General Pam Bondi asking for an investigation:
“Thank God our fight has not been in vain,” co-founder Vivian Zayas, whose mom, Ana Martinez, died of COVID after a stint in a West Islip nursing home in 2020, told The Post.
She said nursing home families sent three letters to Bondi urging a criminal probe of Cuomo.
“We’re just elated this investigation of Cuomo is going forward. It’s a long-overdue victory for the nursing home families and their loved ones,” Zayas added.
“Cuomo should be held accountable. It’s that simple,” said Daniel Arbeeny, whose who lost his father Norman to COVID. “We need to know if Cuomo was lying about following federal guidelines. He forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients and thousands of nursing home residents needlessly died.”

In the 70s when stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, NY, I briefly dated a young local woman named Sandra – a very nice, sweet, attractive lady – and I occasionally wonder how her life went. Last time I know of, she was living east of Buffalo but that was years ago. She dropped out of sight around the first couple of years of the covid panicdemic. Was she a double victim of the Chinese disease and Cuomo’s policies? Who knows?

It’s that he demanded, with the force of government, that these homes accept back seniors that had ALREADY TESTED POSITIVE.
Homes full of people that were the only ones truly at risk during the ‘pandemic’, while simultaneously demanding people at zero actual risk suffer ‘lockdowns’.

It’s well known he jammed old people into COVID nursing homes killing thousands but did he lie about doing it or just the numbers or what.

Her name was Francine. She was a mother and a grandmother. She battled progressive MS for years, but Cuomo killed her. She died all alone, and there was never a funeral for her. Cuomo could have sent COVID positive patients discharged from hospitals to the gigantic US Navy Hospital Ship which was anchored in NYC Harbor. There was also a second location developed just for COVID positive patients discharged from hospitals to quarantine them at the Javits Center. Cuomo ignored these two resources and threatened nursing homes operators with loss of their operating licenses, if they didn’t accept COVID positive patients into their nursing homes. He should spend the rest of his miserable life behind bars. He mocked nursing home administrators when they asked about personal protective equipment for their workers. New York state pays for the vast majority of the cost of nursing home residents, and I suspected Cuomo who was facing a massive budget gap wanted less nursing residents residents alive to alleviate the large budget gap his administration was facing at the time. New York state was the single worst state in handling the pandemic because of the incompetence of Cuomo and his administration.
