Trump has been hoping Iran would accept a deal that’s been on the table for several weeks whereby Iran ends its uranium enrichment completely. Trump told Iran they had 60 days to accept, and when they didn’t, on day 61 Israel attacked.
While Iran has scored some successes against civilians with its ballistic missiles, and even hit a refinery in Haifa, Iran has seen its military and Revolutionary Guard units severely damaged. Israel has declared air superiority over Tehran and has been attacking with drones and jet fighters pretty much at will. As we’ve covered here, much of the Iranian Guard military and intelligence leadership has been eliminated.
There has been a clamoring for Trump to force a compromise deal on Israel, and to abandon Israel entirely. Tucker Carlson has been leading the charge against Trump, and Trump finally reacted:

While it’s not impossible – Entebbe is a LOT further away from Israel than central Iran is – I think it’s unlikely simply because that base is likely fortified with a reinforced garrison of some kind, maybe with armor as well. For a lot of different reasons, IDF is simply not built for expeditionary warfare, few countries really are; look how much trouble Ukraine has been for Russia, which is right next door. That could be biting off way more than they can chew.
Don’t be too sure that a commando raid is the only way Israel can take out Fordow. Remember the pager caper? Construction of Fordow took a very long time. Mossad is good enough to have slipped a small nuclear warhead into that facility that would be triggered by the right signal (or lack of signal). Maybe if the electricity is out for 6 weeks (or whatever), the place automatically blows itself up.
Since Iran’s air defense system is significantly degraded maybe Israel could purchase an obsolete heavy bomber such as a B52 from the US and use it to carry out the heavy bunker buster attack or attacks necessary to destroy Fordow.

It’s also quite possible that Israel is running out of David’s Sling and Iron Dome (but particularly David’s Sling) missiles. With the US in the fight, two things can be accomplished. First, we have much greater battlefield visibility than IDF does. Air Force/Space Force assets will be a much more competent coalition in identifying launch points. Second, our presence greatly increases the loitering ability of our immediate strike assets, both manned and unmanned. We’ll be far more effective at eliminating their ballistic missiles that IDF has been. If they are in fact looking at just a week of David’s Sling capability at the same time Iran has several weeks of missiles left, a good offense might be the only defense they can rely on.
Possible though I’d imagine Israel has a better ability to resupply.. On the other side of the ledger Israel as of yesterday claims they’ve hit about 25%- 30% of Iran’s mobile launchers which reduces the size of the ‘volley’ which means less incoming missiles to defend. Then there’s Iran’s expenditure of its own supply of missiles capable of hitting Israel from Iran itself. The prior actions by Israel to reduce the ability of Iran to rely upon Iranian proxy to act in concert to strike Israel shouldn’t be underrated. I’d far rather hold the cards Israel has than the Iranian cards.
US deployed a THAAD there which I believe is essentially equivalent to a Sling. I’d be more concerned with them running out of Arrow 2 and 3 interceptors.
THAAD (Theater High Altitude Air Defense) isn’t a particular platform or system to be deployed. It’s part of the layered defense strategy of modern air defense. There are platforms/systems that are uniquely suited to performing this task. The USA has Patriot batteries in area and has repositioned several Navel vessels equipped with Aegis Missile Defense systems to assist Israel. FWIW the Patriot batteries are more/less on a permanent rotation to provide missile defense and air defense.
If the space force is ready, Iran would be great for testing reentry of bunker busting rocks 🙂

Why did Israel claim they “were forced” to bomb Iran? They say Iran was making progress on a nuclear bomb, and that couldn’t be permitted.

These are two very real statements, but also two completely different statements.
We have tried for decades to get Iran to stop funding terrorism. We have failed, and will never succeed, and Israel was threatening to take unilateral action, so Obama took a different approach. He decided to not focus on what had proven impossible to stop, and make a deal just to stop Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.
Obama knew this had to be done with the world involved, so along with our allies and world powers, we negotiated the JCPOA, or “The Iran Nuclear Deal.” This deal opened Iran up for inspections, and guaranteed they would not get a bomb.
The JCPOA worked. Iran ceased work on a bomb, and this was verified regularly by the IAEA, Russia, China, EU, and Germany.
Yes, they were still funding Hezbollah amd Hamas and ISIS. Yes, they were still waging proxy wars. But, they were not a threat to become a nuclear power.
But, the Republicans needed more red meat for the base, and they had to pretend that everything Obama dod was bad, so they started to spread this idea that the JCPOA was a failure, because it “only stopped them from getting nukes.”It didn’t make Iran a perfect global citizen, so they told thheir base it was terrible. Even though the deal has succeeded in achieving the one vital goal it was attended to achieve, they declared it a failure, and Trump withdrew from the deal.
It was then that Iran began to again work on a bomb. In the years since, they have made a lot of progress, and that is why Israel bombed them this week.
So, had Trump left well enough alone, Iran would still have no nuclear program, and would not be closer to a bomb and Israel would not be getting smashed to bits at night.
